Elevance Medicare Advantage Plans 2027

Reviewed by Russell Noga, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker (all 50 states) — Last updated September 25, 2026

If you have searched for Elevance Medicare Advantage plans, here is the short answer: you cannot buy one. Elevance Health is a parent company. Its Medicare Advantage plans are sold under Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and other local Blue brands, depending on which state you live in.

That matters more than it sounds. Elevance covers about 1.8 million Medicare Advantage members, made a large round of plan cuts a year before most of its competitors, and improved its star ratings more than almost any other big carrier while doing it. Below is who they are, what changed, and how to compare the plans they actually sell for 2027 when details publish on October 1, 2026.

Elevance, Anthem And What You Actually Buy

Anthem, Inc. renamed itself Elevance Health in 2022. The corporate name changed; the plans people hold did not. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield remained the brand on the card, and its Medicare Advantage plans are still sold under the MediBlue name in most states.

THE CORPORATE NAME

Elevance Health files the contracts with Medicare, reports the earnings and sets the strategy. It is the name you see in news coverage and financial reporting. It is not a name you will ever see on a member ID card.

THE BRAND YOU ENROL IN

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in most of its 14 licensed states, with plans named MediBlue. That is the brand to search, compare and call. Full plan details are in our guide to Anthem Medicare Advantage plans 2027.

This trips people up every year, and it is worth being clear about because the distinction changes what you should be reading. News about Elevance tells you about the company’s financial health and its appetite for the Medicare market. It tells you nothing about whether your cardiologist is in network next year.

Where Elevance Sits In The Market

Measure Elevance For comparison
Medicare Advantage members About 1.8 million UnitedHealthcare about 9.3 million, Humana about 7.0 million
Share of the market About 5% UnitedHealthcare and Humana together hold about 46%
Members in 4-star-plus plans About 53%, up from roughly 40% Kaiser about 100%, Aetna about 81%, Humana about 20%
States 14, where it holds Blue Cross Blue Shield licenses UnitedHealthcare sells in most of the country

The quality number is the one that moved. Going from roughly 40% to 53% of members in 4-star-and-above plans is one of the larger single-year improvements among the big carriers, and it happened in the same year the company shrank its plan lineup. Those two facts are connected.

Star ratings still vary plan by plan and county by county, so a carrier average is a starting point, not an answer. Check the rating on the specific plan sold where you live, and see our guide to the 2027 Medicare Advantage star ratings when CMS publishes them in early October.

The 2027 numbers are now published, and Elevance did cut again. Analysts reading the plan data put it at roughly 150 discontinued plans and 56 counties exited. That is the smallest reduction of any large national carrier — Centene cut about 3,000 plans across 344 counties, Humana about 2,400, UnitedHealthcare about 690 — but cutting early did not mean cutting once. Check your Annual Notice of Change rather than assuming your plan carries over.

Elevance Cut A Year Early

Most of the industry is trimming plans for 2027. Elevance did its trimming a year early, for 2026 instead. It exited plans covering roughly 150,000 members and left the standalone Part D market entirely.

That was painful for the people whose plans ended, and it is the reason its quality numbers jumped: cutting the weakest plans raises the average of what remains. Going early did not make Elevance immune, though. Published 2027 plan data shows roughly 150 more plans discontinued and 56 counties exited.

What going early did buy was scale. Elevance’s reduction is the smallest of any large national carrier. Centene cut about 3,000 plans and exited 344 counties, Humana cut about 2,400 while ending plans covering roughly 600,000 members, UnitedHealthcare cut about 690 and exited 63 counties, and CVS exited 103.

Cutting early was not the same as cutting once. Elevance went into 2027 having already taken its reductions, and reduced again anyway — less than anyone else, but not nothing. The 2027 plan data is now published, so the question is no longer whether cuts happened. It is whether your specific plan is in them. Your Annual Notice of Change is the document that answers it.

If your plan did end, you get a special enrollment period to choose new coverage. Our guide to Medicare Advantage plans going away in 2027 covers your rights and the deadlines.

How To Compare For 2027

YOUR 2027 CHECKLIST

Four steps, starting with the right name

1

Search the brand, not the parent. Look up Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in your county. Nothing is sold under the Elevance name.

2

On October 1, 2026, price your own county. Use the Medicare Plan Finder tool and enter every prescription with dose and your actual pharmacy.

3

Check the plan’s own star rating. A carrier at 53% in 4-star plans means roughly half its members are not. Yours might be either.

4

Enroll between October 15 and December 7, 2026. Coverage starts January 1, 2027.

Elevance Medicare Advantage FAQs

➤  Does Elevance sell Medicare Advantage plans?

Elevance Health is the parent company, not the plan brand. Its Medicare Advantage plans are sold under Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and other local Blue brands, depending on the state. You will not find a plan card that says Elevance on it.

➤  Is Elevance the same as Anthem?

Effectively yes. Anthem, Inc. renamed itself Elevance Health in 2022, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield remains the consumer brand on most of its Medicare Advantage plans. The corporate name changed; the plans people hold did not.

➤  How many Medicare Advantage members does Elevance have?

About 1.8 million, roughly 5 percent of the national Medicare Advantage market. That makes it a mid-sized parent company, well behind UnitedHealthcare and Humana but ahead of most regional plans.

➤  Are Elevance Medicare Advantage plans being cut for 2027?

Elevance made its cuts a year early. For the 2026 plan year it exited plans covering roughly 150,000 members and left the standalone Part D market entirely. That leaves it with fewer announced exits for 2027 than carriers that delayed, though 2027 details are not confirmed until October 1, 2026.

➤  What star ratings do Elevance plans have?

About 53 percent of its members are in plans rated 4 stars or higher, up from roughly 40 percent, one of the larger year-over-year improvements among the big carriers. It still trails Kaiser, Aetna and UnitedHealthcare on that measure. Ratings are set plan by plan and county by county.

➤  How do I compare Elevance Medicare Advantage plans for 2027?

Compare the brand, not the parent company. Look up the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield plans sold in your county, then compare premium, in-network out-of-pocket maximum, whether your doctors and drugs are covered, and the specific plan’s star rating. 2027 plan details publish on October 1, 2026.

New to Medicare?

If you are new to Medicare, then you can enroll in a 2027 Medicare Advantage plan up to three months prior to your Medicare Part B effective date.
