A Part B giveback plan is a Medicare Advantage plan that pays part of your Medicare Part B premium for you. The reduction usually shows up as a bigger Social Security check each month, so you keep more of your money.

Giveback plans are growing for 2027. Plans with “Giveback” in their name rose to 575 in CMS’s 2027 plan data, up from 405 in 2026. This guide explains how the Part B premium reduction works, which carriers offer it and how to find one during Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7, 2026.

How the Part B Giveback Works

✔

Medicare pays the plan a set amount for each member. Plans that bid below Medicare’s benchmark get a rebate they can use for extra benefits, lower costs or a Part B premium reduction.

✔

The plan picks a monthly amount, which can be anywhere from a few dollars up to the full Part B premium.

✔

You get it through Social Security. The reduction is usually applied to your Social Security payment. If you pay Part B directly, your Medicare bill goes down instead.

✔

It can take a few months to start. The first reductions may arrive late, then catch up.

Giveback plans can also have a $0 premium. Read more in our guide to $0 premium Medicare Advantage plans.

Who Qualifies for a Part B Giveback Plan?

✔

You have Medicare Part A and Part B and live in the plan’s service area.

✔

You pay your own Part B premium. If Medicaid or another program pays it for you, the reduction goes to that program instead of you.

✔

You enroll in a plan that offers the reduction during Annual Enrollment or another valid enrollment period.

People with both Medicare and Medicaid usually get more value from a special needs plan than from a giveback.

Is a Part B Giveback Plan Right for You?

A good fit if you:

✔

Want more money back in your Social Security check each month

✔

Are healthy and use few medical services

✔

Already have drug coverage or take few prescriptions

✔

Are comfortable using a provider network

Look harder at other options if you:

!

Expect frequent doctor visits or hospital stays

!

Want the richest dental, vision or drug benefits

!

Have Medicaid paying your Part B premium

Some giveback plans, especially PPOs, do not include Part D drug coverage. Check before you enroll.

How to Find the Best Part B Giveback Plan for 2027

1

Check the monthly reduction amount, since it varies by plan and county.

2

Compare the out-of-pocket maximum and copays. A big giveback can come with higher cost sharing.

3

Confirm drug coverage if you take prescriptions.

4

Check your doctors in the plan’s network.

5

Enroll on time. Medicare Open Enrollment 2027 runs October 15 to December 7, 2026.
