Which Aetna Dual Plan Fits Your Medicaid Level

Aetna names its D-SNPs by the kind of Medicaid help you get. In general:

  • Full Dual plans are for people with full Medicaid benefits.
  • Partial Dual plans are for people who get help with some Medicare costs through a Medicare Savings Program but not full Medicaid.
  • QMB Only plans, new for 2027, are for people in the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary program.
  • Dual, Dual Care and Dual Extra plans generally accept several levels of Medicaid.
  • FIDE and HIDE plans coordinate your Medicare and Medicaid benefits more closely, sometimes in a single plan. Aetna sells them in Virginia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Kentucky and Michigan.

Each plan sets the exact Medicaid levels it accepts, and you’ll need to keep your Medicaid to stay enrolled. Learn more in our guide to Medicare Advantage special needs plans.

  • New QMB Only plans. 12 QMB Only plans are new for 2027, in Texas, Louisiana, Florida and Connecticut.

A good fit if you:

  • Have both Medicare and Medicaid, or a Medicare Savings Program

Look harder at other options if you:

  • Don’t have Medicaid or a Medicare Savings Program
  • Live outside Aetna’s 27 D-SNP states
  • Want a PPO, since most Aetna D-SNPs are HMOs
