Does Mayo Clinic, MD Anderson or Moffitt Accept Medicare Advantage? 2027 Network Guide

Reviewed by Russell Noga, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker (all 50 states) — Last updated October 30, 2026

Mayo Clinic, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Moffitt Cancer Center all accept Original Medicare, but each one is in network with only a short list of Medicare Advantage plans. Over the past two years, all three have dropped or lost contracts with some of the largest Medicare Advantage insurers, including UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.

If you want one of these centers available for a future diagnosis, the plan you pick during Open Enrollment (October 15 to December 7, 2026) matters more than usual. Below is what each center lists today, what changed recently, and what our analysis of CMS 2027 plan data shows about the counties around each campus.

None of these lists is a promise for 2027. Each center tells patients to confirm with the plan before enrolling, and network contracts can end in the middle of a plan year, as Moffitt’s Humana change did in July 2026.

Mayo Clinic and Medicare Advantage

Mayo Clinic says it participates in Traditional Medicare (Parts A, B and D) and Medicare supplement plans at its Rochester, Arizona and Florida campuses and across Mayo Clinic Health System. For Medicare Advantage, Mayo says it does not accept plans it has not contracted with and is out of network for most of them.

Two changes took effect January 1, 2026:

✔

UnitedHealthcare: Mayo’s Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa locations went out of network for UnitedHealthcare individual Medicare Advantage plans and dual special needs plans. UnitedHealthcare group retiree plans stayed in network under a multi-year agreement.

✔

Humana: Humana told members that Mayo Clinic would be out of network for Humana Medicare Advantage members beginning January 1, 2026.

For 2026, local advisers in Rochester reported that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota and Medica plans were still in network with Mayo and Olmsted Medical Center. Ask each plan to confirm Mayo’s 2027 status in writing before you enroll.

Iowa: no 2027 plan with Mayo in network

The Iowa Insurance Division said on October 15, 2026, that after Wellmark and Medica canceled their Medicare Advantage PPO plans, Iowans will no longer be able to buy a 2027 Medicare Advantage plan with in-network coverage at Mayo Clinic. Iowans who rely on Mayo are being pointed toward Original Medicare.

2027 Medicare Advantage plans by county: Olmsted MN 5, Duval FL 81, Maricopa AZ 90, Harris TX 93, Hillsborough FL 118

Our Analysis: How Many 2027 Plans Are Sold Around Each Campus

We counted individual Medicare Advantage plans in CMS’s 2027 plan files for the home county of each campus. More plans does not mean more access: being sold in the county is not the same as having the center in network.

Our analysis of CMS 2027 plan data

✔

Olmsted County, Minnesota (Mayo Rochester): just 5 individual plans for 2027, 4 from Medica and 1 from Blue Plus, the HMO arm of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. Two of the five are dual special needs plans.

✔

Harris County, Texas (MD Anderson): 93 plans from 16 carriers, led by Humana (19), Aetna (12) and Devoted Health (10). KelseyCare Advantage offers 3.

✔

Hillsborough County, Florida (Moffitt): 118 plans from more than 20 carrier brands, the most of the five counties, and 60% of them are special needs plans.

✔

Maricopa County, Arizona (Mayo Phoenix): 90 plans; Duval County, Florida (Mayo Jacksonville): 81 plans.

County (campus) 2027 plans PPO plans Special needs plans
Olmsted, MN (Mayo Rochester) 5 3 2
Duval, FL (Mayo Jacksonville) 81 20 44
Maricopa, AZ (Mayo Phoenix) 90 15 40
Harris, TX (MD Anderson) 93 15 48
Hillsborough, FL (Moffitt) 118 19 71

The pattern is the opposite of what many shoppers expect: the Rochester area has very few plans, while Houston and Tampa have dozens. In the big metro counties, the hard part is finding the one or two plans that list the center, not finding a plan.

MD Anderson and Medicare Advantage

MD Anderson’s Medicare page lists two Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas plans, the UT CARE Medicare PPO and the Texas A&M 65 Plus Medicare Advantage PPO, plus KelseyCare Advantage. The two Blue Cross plans are for University of Texas and Texas A&M System retirees, so most people shopping on their own can’t buy them.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas ended its individual Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO contracts with MD Anderson on November 1, 2024. At the time, MD Anderson said it would still accept Kelsey-Seybold’s Medicare Advantage plans and some out-of-state Blue Cross PPO plans. MD Anderson also says it has working relationships with other Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plans, so call the plan and ask whether MD Anderson is in network or only covered as out of network. Compare the Houston-area options in our guide to Medicare Advantage plans in Texas.

Moffitt Cancer Center and Medicare Advantage

Moffitt, the Tampa cancer center designated by the National Cancer Institute, lost two large Medicare Advantage networks in seven months:

1

Aetna: individual Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plans went out of network December 1, 2025.

2

Humana: Humana ended the contract for its Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plans, effective July 1, 2026. Humana may extend continuity of care through December 29, 2026, case by case, for patients in active treatment.

Moffitt’s notice says these plans are still in network where they are offered: Florida Complete Care, Health First Medicare HMO and PPO, and Velocity National Provider Network. Moffitt also accepts Humana’s private fee-for-service plan, Gold Choice. PFFS plans work differently from HMOs and PPOs, so read how they pay providers in our guide to Humana Gold Choice PFFS plans. Tampa Bay shoppers can compare every carrier in Medicare Advantage plans in Florida.

Out-of-Network Care at These Centers

Whether you can use one of these centers out of network depends on your plan type:

✔

HMO: usually no coverage out of network except emergencies, so a non-contracted center is generally not covered.

✔

PPO: may cover out-of-network care at a higher cost, but the center itself may decline to schedule patients from plans it doesn’t contract with. Mayo says it does not accept noncontracted plans.

✔

Referrals for rare cancers or transplants: some plans approve out-of-network care when no in-network provider can treat you. That is decided case by case and should be approved in writing first.

If keeping a specific center is a must, Original Medicare is accepted at all three. Weigh that against Medicare Advantage costs in our Original Medicare vs Medicare Advantage guide.

How to Check a Plan Before You Enroll

1

Call the center first. Mayo, MD Anderson and Moffitt each have insurance teams. Moffitt’s Financial Clearance Unit is 813-745-7300.

2

Then call the plan. Ask whether the specific campus and its doctors are in network for 2027, not just the health system name.

3

Check the plan type. An HMO, PPO and PFFS plan from the same insurer can have different access.

4

Ask about mid-year changes. If a center leaves your plan’s network during the year, ask what continuity-of-care rules apply.

5

Save the answers. Write down the date, the person you spoke with and a reference number.
